Towards 2010

What is Towards 2010?

Towards 2010 is a £4 million skills initiative that offers employers a significant contribution towards the cost of training.  Between 50 and 70 per cent of the cost of training activities is available to support training initiatives that focus on improving business performance.

Typical training programmes could include:

  • Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of your production line
  • Updating computer skills
  • Extending leadership and management skills
  • Improving marketing skills that will assist you to win new business

Aimed at developing the skills of people working in small and medium sized companies Towards 2010 has been designed to develop best practise in the following business sectors:

  • Manufacturing
  • Food and drink
  • Life sciences
  • Tourism, leisure and heritage
  • Creative industries
  • Energy
  • Environmental technologies

Sector specialists will work with companies to analyse their skills needs and work out where their skills shortages lie. A training plan will then be developed to support the firm’s business plan and act as a base for high level training needs within the company.

The programme will also create a list of trainers to help companies select those best suited to providing the appropriate training for the businesses. The eventual aim is to increase both productivity and skills within the firms.

Towards 2010 is jointly funded by EEDA and the European Social Fund. The scheme is being delivered regionally by ExDRA in partnership with Cranfield University.
