What is sportessex?
Sport provides fantastic opportunities for residents, visitors and business. It embraces communities and brings together people from all walks of life. Whether watching or participating, the benefits that sport can bring to people’s well being and local communities can not be overstated.
Essex has a sporting pedigree that is second to none. From clubs and facilities enjoyed by local communities, to venues of national and international significance, such as Essex County Cricket Club and the Great Leighs Racecourse, the County has much to offer. And with the 2012 Olympics on the County’s doorstep, the profile of sport and the benefits that it can bring to local communities will be in the spotlight more than ever before.
To ensure a co-ordinated approach to sports delivery within Essex, sportessex, the Essex, Southend and Thurrock County Sports Partnership has been established. Working in partnership with Sport England, Essex local authorities and other partners, sportessex is part of the national network of County Sports Partnerships that are committed to bringing sport into the community. Through a co-ordinated approach the partnership will contribute to increasing participation and widening access to sport across the County though three core functions:
- Strategic co-ordination and planning
- Performance measurement
- Marketing and communications
