Sir Ian McAllister, GEPF Chairman
One of Sir Ian's first tasks as GEPF Chairman was make a presentation to the Economic Summit, which contributed to the public consultation on the Essex Strategy. He outlined the challenges and opportunities for Essex:
"We want to be sure that Essex is 'punching its weight' and getting its fair share of resource... The areas that have been identified as being most important are: raising skill levels, attracting more high value jobs, attracting more inward investment, addressing environmental challenges, helping more businesses to start-up, grow and expand, encouraging innovation and tackling transport issues as raised by the business community. ...We recognise that having identified what we need to address, there is a big task ahead and we will be setting up 'Task and Finish' groups to drive work forward."
Sir Ian, Chair of Network Rail and The Carbon Trust took over the reins from Sir Michael Hodgkinson, who will continue to lead the Essex Business Consortium. Sir Ian brings a wealth of experience and demonstrable success in the world of business.
