Planning future Investment in our Communities

Date: 27 October 2006

Partners from across mid and west Essex came together in early October to begin the process of preparing for the next four years of the Investing in Communities programme to March 2011.

Mid and west Essex is already benefiting from approximately £1 million worth of funding through this regional investment programme being led by EEDA. At an IiC consultation event in early October partners from across the area helped shape the way in which further investments will be made.

Mid and West Essex comprises the districts of Harlow, Chelmsford, Epping Forest, Brentwood, Uttlesford, Braintree and Maldon. With up to £10.5 million of potential funding available, the event marked the beginning of the process to plan how mid and west Essex can access this funding.

The event was attended by 75 people from approximately 50 organisations who each took part in two workshop discussions. These focused on how best to help our less well performing groups and communities. The discussions were about improving skill levels, creating more and better employment opportunities and encouraging new enterprises.

The priorities will now be discussed at a ‘Summit’ meeting of chief executives and will later be worked into proposals for Investing in Communities projects by the IiC Partnership Steering Group and its officers based at ExDRA.
