Find out from the Design Council how their Design Blueprint will give designers access to a range of professional tools, information and advice, which aims to improve professional skills and career development and better prepare design students for the challenges they face when entering the industry.
The Speakers:
Lesley Morris
Lesley spent 18 years in design consultancies, working on commercial interior design and architectural projects and then in higher education for eight years, leading the MA Design Leadership programme at Middlesex University and teaching professional practice on undergraduate design courses.
Lesley joined the Design Council in 1997 as a senior manager in the Education team and has recently led the development of the Design Skills Blueprint, a UK-wide strategic programme to help improve design skills and professional development.
The Design Blueprint has been developed as an action plan for the recommendations first set out in the High Level Skills for Higher Value report published last year. This report identified the need for designers to have access to better professional information services and advice on continuing professional development. It also recognized that design students must be better prepared for the rapidly evolving challenges of the industry.
The central action set out in the design blueprint is the formation of a design skills alliance, which will co-ordinate the drive for industry and government sponsorship, and take forward the delivery of the programmes.
Lesley will be talking about the Design Blueprint, focusing on designer development.
