Doing business in China
Date: 05 October 2006
Businesses from across Essex and the east of England gathered at the Essex Technology & Innovation Centre in Ongar on Thursday 5th October to hear about doing business in China.
Essex has long established links with Jiangsu Province in China and Thursday’s event was just one area of activity being developed to strengthen co-operation between the two and provide Essex business with advice about how to access the world’s fastest growing economy.
The event was attended by VIP’s Councillor Gerard McKewen, the Chairman of Essex County Council which has developed a variety of economic, cultural and educational links with Jiangsu in recent years and Mr Shi Jianxin, Minister Counsellor (Economic & Commercial) from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the UK.
Lord Hanningfield, Leader of Essex County Council, said, “Our partnership with Jiangsu Province is all about developing a route for Essex businesses to find and exploit opportunities in this most exciting and dynamic part of China and to help Jiangsu businesses find opportunities to invest in Essex. I hope every Essex business with any interest in China takes advantage of these resources.”
Peter Cook, the Head of Innovation and International Markets at the Essex Development & Regeneration Agency (ExDRA), was delighted with the event’s success. “China is a significant market for businesses in Essex and the east of England. With our partners at Essex County Council, East of England International and the China Britain Business Council, we are now able to offer a full range of support for businesses wishing to take a look at opportunities there.”
