Get the real Insite into Essex
Date: 10 February 2006
Hot on the heels of Chantelle’s success in the Celebrity Big Brother House, Essex will be in the spotlight once again as four famous commentators come together to discuss “What is It About Essex?” as part of the Essex Book Festival.
“What Is It About Essex?” brings together four famous and always entertaining Essex commentators to discuss what still makes their county so famous, or infamous. Germaine Greer, Simon Heffer, Martin Newell and Ken Worpole will each give their unique perspective on the County at the Central Baptist Church, Chelmsford on 28th February 2006.
The event launches a year of inspiring and exciting cultural events being developed through Insite, the Essex Cultural Tourism Programme.
Other unique Insite events across the County in 2006 include:
Spoke “n” Word – a string of gentle bicycle and walking trips along the riverside and woodland beauty of North East Essex, punctuated by poetry readings and anecdotes form Martin Newell, musician, broadcaster and the UK’s most published poet.
Essex streetdiversions – a showcase of wild, wacky and accessible street theatre touring a number of the county’s towns.
Souterrain – a landscape theatre production based on the story of Orpheus in the Underworld being performed in Colchester outside the proposed site of the new visual art facility, firstsite:newsite.
Martin Newell, who will be performing his Insite commissioned poem, Anthem for Essex said, “Essex is truly a cultured and discerning place. Most prejudice is born out of ignorance and the true picture of what Essex is really all about is a far cry from that which is often depicted. Rather than importing culture, Essex should be exporting it and we’ve certainly got plenty on offer.”
Rob West, the Director of the Insite project is equally excited by the year ahead. “Essex is a fantastically diverse place. Insite is all about creating inspiring cultural events in interesting places and what better way could there be to kick off the programme for 2006 than by having such a panel of entertaining local pundits to get the debate going!”
