International Opportunities

ExDRA works closely with other support organizations in the region helping Essex companies achieve their international aspirations. Our calendar of events includes trade missions, international trade fairs and awareness seminars amongst others. Please see list below for current events.

In particular we help with the development of trade links in two specific fronts, China and India:

Essex has very strong links with the Jiangsu Province in China. The area, adjacent to Shangai, has a rapidly growing economy and has attracted more foreign investment than any other province in China. The Essex County Council will be taking an Essex delegation out to China in November, please see all the details below under our events listing.

India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world, and presents significant opportunities for British companies particularly given the shared history, language and existent cultural links. During our last trade mission to the country back in March we started collaborative work with the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce in Pune (MCCIA), a major economic centre in the state of Maharashtra and the second largest city after the capital Mumbai. As a result of its many colleges and universities, Pune is emerging as a prominent location for IT and manufacturing companies to expand to and the automotive, engineering design and technology sectors are particularly prominent. Through our collaborative work with the MCCIA, we have now direct access to hundreds of businesses in the area potentially interested in finding and developing effective trade links with Essex firms. For more information about Pune and the MCCIA please click here.

If you are interested in trade opportunities in Pune, Jiangsu or any other markets please click here to register your interest so we can discuss potential help available through ourselves and other support organisations. Trade Mission to China        22 - 29 November

China is rising – fast!

Britain’s exports to China are at a record high, growing 17% in 2007 over the previous year. There are opportunities in a wide range of sectors. This visit provides an effective way to explore new opportunities in this exciting region of China.

Benefits and options at a glance

- UKTI grant of £750 (eligibility criteria apply)
- pre-departure briefing
- in-country briefing by the British Consulate and CBBC
- 1-1 pre-screened meeting programme with potential partners, agents, etc.
- two evening business networking receptions
- advice and help with visas, business cards, translation, etc.

The mission is being organised by the Essex-China Business Network partners: Essex County Council, UK Trade & Investment, the China-Britain Business Council, with the support of the Jiangsu Provincial Government and the Municipal Government of Wuxi City.

If you have not been to China before, Shanghai and Jiangsu can provide excellent opportunities for your business. If you are experienced in China, this mission can open up an important new region to you.

Shanghai is one of China’s most dynamic cities, recording double-digit growth for 15 consecutive years. It is China’s leading centre of commerce and finance, has the world’s busiest port, and is at the forefront of many new trends, including the development of the world’s first eco-city at Dongtan.

Jiangsu Province has a population of 75 million and contributes 10% of China’s total GDP and 45% of the GDP of China’s booming Yangtse River Delta region. Its diverse and powerful economy has attracted 20% of all of China’s foreign direct investment, more than any other province.

After visiting Shanghai we will travel to Wuxi city, ranked no. 2 in a 2005 Forbes list of best Chinese cities in which to do business. Wuxi’s per-capita GDP is ranked 9th highest out of China’s 659 cities and provides an ideal base from which participants can visit other major Jiangsu cities including the capital Nanjing and Suzhou.

Indicative Cost £1700 This price is a guide only and is subject to change. The above cost includes direct economy class flights, hotel and city transfers, accommodation, prescreened 1-1 meeting programme, two business networking receptions, pretravel and in-country briefings, and management fee. Eligible companies can apply for a £750 grant towards these costs.
